For the real beach lover, Wrightsville Beach is the top choice. A barrier island off North Carolina’s coast, the Intracoastal Waterway is on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. Wrightsville Beach waterfront homes come as cozy beach cottages, large modern homes, and sleek condos. The town is considered to have the best beaches in the state. Wrightsville Beach homes are excellent for both year-round residents and as summer houses. Development has been carefully controlled, with a view to preserving the relaxed and unhurried pace of life.
If real estate development has been slow and deliberate, it hasn’t dampened the vibrancy of the community. Wrightsville Beach waterfront homes allow residents to enjoy watersports of all kinds. Go kayaking along the marshes of the island and keep an eye out for the many species of waterbirds. Surfing and stand-up paddleboarding are also very popular, and the beaches are considered some of the best for surfers in the world. And don’t miss the great fishing, either from Johnnie Mercer’s Pier or right in the surf.
Out of the water, there’s no shortage of places to go and things to see. Eminently walkable, the island invites residents to saunter down to the beach-y boutiques for some shopping, then out to one of the oceanfront grills for fresh-caught seafood. Explore the center of Wrightsville Beach on the John Nesbitt Loop (usually simply called “the Loop”), a 2.45 mile paved pathway and a great place for walking or jogging.
Annual events bring the community together. Runners train for the Valentine’s Day 10K. Groove to the live music during the summer evening concert series. On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, spend the day at the Day in the Park festival, and kick off the holiday season that evening with the Flotilla Boat Parade and Fireworks.
